WHELDON FINISHES 11TH FOR PANTHER IN IOWA SPEEDWAY BULLRING BATTLE

IZOD IndyCar Series Short Oval Event Produces 16 Lead Changes in 250-lap Event

NEWTON, Iowa - (June 20, 2010) – In an exciting IZOD IndyCar Series short oval race at Iowa Speedway, National Guard Panther Racing driver Dan Wheldon completed the race with an 11th-place finish. Wheldon remains in the 10th position in the IndyCar Series points’ championship, but moved to within one point of ninth-place Marco Andretti and eight points from Justin Wilson in the eighth overall position.

“The entire team did a really good job, it was just on the longer runs for whatever reason we just seemed to burn up the left-front,” Wheldon explained. “So we were really strong at the beginning and just seemed to fade more than others at the end of each run.”

Wheldon qualified 10th for the event, and was able to move up to seventh position at the start of the race, when quickly moved past Danica Patrick, Alex Tagliani and Team Penske driver Ryan Briscoe. The team was able to maintain its position inside the Top Ten while the field cycled through pit stops.

“We also got a bit unlucky with the last yellow flag, but that’s the way it goes sometimes,” Dan continued. “Like I said the National Guard Panther Racing team did a good job and carried on working throughout the weekend.”

Andretti Autosport driver Tony Kanaan captured his first victory of the season and was joined on the Iowa Speedway podium by Penske driver Helio Castroneves and KV Racing’s EJ Viso.

The IZOD IndyCar Series will have a weekend off before traveling to Watkins Glen International Raceway for the Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen, which will be broadcast live on Sunday, July 4th on ABC, with additional coverage provided by www.indycar.com, the IMS Radio Network and XM Channel 145 and Sirius channel 211.
