TORONTO TIME: WHELDON, PANTHER READY TO ATTACK STREETS OF CANADA

National Guard Panther Team Looks to Continue Climb Up IZOD IndyCar Series Championship

TORONTO, Canada - (July 15, 2010) – The IZOD IndyCar Series returns to Canada this weekend for the Honda Indy Toronto, hosted on the complex 11-turn, 1.755-mile street course. This will be the second time the IndyCar Series has competed in Ontario’s capital city after making its inaugural visit in 2009 in what was one of the most exciting – and crash-filled – events of the season.

“The National Guard Panther Racing team is excited to get back to Toronto,” Panther driver Dan Wheldon. “It perhaps wasn’t our best weekend last year but that’s where the continuity of working together for another season is really going to help us, and it has helped us all season.”

National Guard Panther Racing driver Dan Wheldon is coming off a sixth-place finish at Watkins Glen International Raceway, where he and his Panther team were able to overcome early contact with Alex Lloyd to move to within the Top Five. The result helped Panther move to eighth position in the IZOD IndyCar Series championship race.

In Toronto last year, Wheldon advanced from his starting position of 21st and was able to overcome early contact in the race with Richard Antinucci to finish in the 14th position. This weekend will mark the team’s fourth start in 2010 on a street course, with a best finish of fifth in the season-opening race in Brazil. The team was running in seventh position in St. Pete before a suspension failure and finished ninth in Long Beach.

“Everybody on the team has been working so hard and you saw that pay off in Watkins Glen when we were able to bounce back after some contact and finish strong,” Dan said. “We’ve got a lot of positive momentum going right now and we hope to keep that up during the last half of the season.”

The Honda Indy Toronto, where the race will be broadcast live Sunday, July 18th at 12:30 p.m. (EST) on ABC with additional coverage provided by the IMS Radio Network, www.indycar.com, XM Channel 145 and Sirius channel 211.
